Scented Candles – Enjoy Them Without the Cost

Posted on August 28th, 2010 in Scented Candles by scentedcandles  Tagged , ,

I am a huge fan of scented candles and love to have them burning in my house throughout the evenings, especially during the dark winter months. The scents of home cooking or spicy Christmas aromas fill my house but also bring certain nostalgia with them. However, good quality candles do cost money. If you want to enjoy a candle, it is worth buying a decent candle that clearly states how long it will last and maintains its scent throughout the life of the candle. However, if (like me) you enjoy abundant burning, you may wish to consider an alternative to candles that will give you just the same scent but at a fraction of the cost of candles. Yes, I’m talking about wax tarts.

A lot of people have asked me what wax tarts are. I even had one of my trusted sales reps tell me that he had a faulty batch of candles when he received wax tarts for the first time. He hadn’t read his sales information thoroughly and told me that there were no wicks in any of the candles I had just sent. I laughed but it was good for me to hear, because a lot of people are not too familiar with wax tarts.

They are simply little blocks of wax that are scented, smelling just like scented candles. However, these wax tarts are put on the top of burners (like the fragrance oil burners) with a tea-light underneath. Once the tea light is lit, the tart liquidises and it gives a very pure fragrance that fills the room, probably a little more so than a normal scented candle. They’re beautiful and the best part is that they’re very reasonably priced. A wax tart always gives an estimated burn time, but you will probably find that it just keeps going and going. When the tea light is extinguished, the wax hardens once again. These are clean and easy to use. If you want to change the wax to a different aroma, you can always do this once the wax has hardened.

To begin burning wax tarts, you’ll need a wax tart burner. These can vary in range from about £4 up to about £20 or so (maybe even more), depending on how fancy you want it. I’ve got a beautiful glass one in my living room that matches my décor, and in my opinion, it is worth getting a nice one as once you start using wax tarts, you’ll probably never stop! You’ll need to purchase tea-lights and then chose some wax tarts. Some companies do big wax tarts – we sell them in packs of 4 smaller tarts and they also look great in with potpourri and fragrance your room without a candle ever being lit. Whatever range or size you chose to buy, they are certainly a lot cheaper than burning candles and mean that you can try new fragrances that you may not want to buy a candle in until you know that you like the scent. They certainly are a great way to enjoy scented candles at a fraction of the cost.

Essential Oil Aromatherapy Candles For Romantic Impressions

Posted on August 27th, 2010 in Scented Candles by scentedcandles  Tagged , , , ,

When you are trying to incite a romantic mood you need to have some good quality aromatherapy candles to arm yourself with. These aromatherapy candles will be what makes or breaks your romantic evening. You need to take special care when choosing the aromatherapy candles that you want to use as well. There is nothing like a terrible smell to turn someone off and nothing like a great one to turn them on. The trick is to know which is which. Remember that what smells good to you may not smell good to your partner.

When you are in the planning stages of your special night you need to find out what kinds of smells will thrill your partner. Men often respond well to vanilla. Some experts even claim that vanilla scents are a male aphrodisiac. So if your partner is a mail then you may want to get yourself some great vanilla aromatherapy candles. These will get him in the mood right as he walks in the door.

What makes vanilla such a good choice of aromatherapy candles is that it appeals to almost anyone, both men and women. Very few people dislike vanilla aromatherapy candles and they will not take away from anyone appetite. If you have some of these aromatherapy candles burning they will even make your dinner taste better. They put people in such a good mood and they make them hungry as well.

You can place your aromatherapy candles all over the house, but only in the rooms that you plan on spending some time in. You may want to mix in your aromatherapy candles with other non scented candles. If you have too many aromatherapy candles around the scent can become overwhelming and that is never good. You want your scented rooms to be subtle and stimulating. So one or two aromatherapy candles in a room at one time is a good idea.

You should also take care with the aromatherapy candles that you choose. If you want to mix the candle scents you need to watch carefully. Some scents will not mix together well at all. Before you have your special and romantic evening you need to test the smells together to see if they blend well. This is vitally important to your entire evening.

You may want to have your candles on the actual dinner table be regular non scented candles. Having aromatherapy candles on the table is probably not a very good idea as it can interfere with the flavors of the dinner itself. So keep the aromatherapy candles away from the dinner table and your dinner will be a bigger hit.

You can have aromatherapy candles in the bedroom as well but do not light these before you get in that room. You should never leave candles unattended for too long, especially if you have pets. They could knock them over and start a fire. Proper aromatherapy candle safety is necessary at all times.

Making Scented Soy Candles Gives Pleasure Coming and Going

Posted on August 26th, 2010 in Scented Candles by scentedcandles  Tagged , , , ,

If you already know how to make candles, then making a scented soy candle isn’t much more difficult. Even if you have never made a candle before it is not difficult to learn. The wax used in this method comes from soy beans, but it can also be mixed with paraffin wax to create a more versatile mixture. Many people prefer the scented soy candle to others because it is more natural than some other waxes. There is also less smoke given off by soy thus resulting in a better candle burning experience. Additionally, a scented soy candle is cheaper to make than other natural sources such as beeswax or bayberry wax making it easier on the pocket book.

Candles made from soy are very sturdy and the wax is very firm. You can easily add fragrances and essential oils to the mixture to create wonderful scented candles. To buy soy wax you can go to any craft store whether online or offline and most shops will have two different forms for you to choose from. These forms would be block or flaked soy wax. Using flakes when making a scented soy candle is easier because you can measure out the wax quicker and more accurately.

To make a scented soy candle you pour your wax into a double boiler or into the microwave and melt it down. While this is melting you can prepare the mold that you will be using and set the wick. Once this is done and you wax is melted you can add the color and the scent. Then you carefully pour the wax into the mold and allow it to set. Once it is set, you can remove the candle from the mold. You don’t necessarily have to use a mold as there are other options you can use.

Cleaning up the mess that is made while making a scented soy candle is fairly easy but be careful if the wax is hot. Once it’s cooled, all you need for a good clean up is some soap and water. It will wash off your equipment or counter top fairly easily. After this you can relax and bask in the the aroma of your brand new creation.

The Main Event Episode 77 Antica & Anthousa Summer Diffusers

Posted on August 24th, 2010 in Scented Candles by scentedcandles  Tagged , , , ,

Anthousa and Antica Farmacista launched new summer scents this year and they are both amazing! The Anthousa Sweet Basil & Heirloom Tomato scent is so fresh and unique. We have many customers requesting tomato scents in the summertime, and there are great candle options, such as Votivo Fresh Tomato Leaf, Tocca Sofia and Voluspa Chef’s Special candle. This is the first tomato diffuser we’ve had and I could be happier! While I like the smell of tomato plants in the garden, personally, I wouldn’t look for that scent in a candle, though it’s lovely. This diffuser, however, is fantastic! The addition of the sweet basil makes the scent so clean, fresh and lively. It adds a whole new dimension to the tomato scent. Instead of leaning towards a grounding, earthy fragrance it goes the other way towards a very lively, invigorating scent. It reminds me of when Tocca mixed Rosemary and Pine in their Vittorio candle to turn a calming, woody scent into something so bright and uplifting. I love the new Anthousa Sweet Basil & Heirloom Tomato diffuser and highly recommend trying it. www.candlesoffmain.com We recently brought the Antica Farmacista Lemon, Verbena & Cedar diffuser home to try it. We put it on our kitchen windowsill and went away for a week. (We like to scatter diffusers around our house before we go away on vacation so we return to a beautifully scented, welcoming home rather than stuffy, pet-odor air.) Having forgotten about the diffuser, every time we’d stand at the kitchen
